We like to talk about our nuts. That’s mostly because we have more nuts than the average person. As a matter of fact, we’ve got all kinds of nuts: cashews, walnuts, almonds, and more. Our nuts are hot, cool, and salty, depending on what's your pleasure. They’re fun at parties and even work as gifts. If you had as many nuts on your hands as we have on ours, you’d want to talk about your nuts, too. In all of our talk about our nuts, we don’t want to leave out the most famous nut of all: the humble peanut.
Peanuts are such a staple that we sometimes take them for granted, and that’s just wrong. A peanut may not look like much, but there’s a reason why the peanut is so popular. We don’t play favorites around here. We love peanuts just as much as we love our other nuts, but it’s been a while since we’ve sung this nut’s praises. So let’s discuss all the things we love about peanuts.

They Rigged The Game And Then Won It
Quick, picture a nut!
What are you picturing? It’s a peanut, right? You’re definitely picturing a peanut. You may be picturing it in its shell or outside of its shell, but either way, we’d bet our nuts that you’ve got a peanut in your head right now.
We know this for two reasons. One, this article is about peanuts, so you were picturing them anyway. We know, we’re not quite playing fair here. Two, the peanut is what everyone pictures when they picture nuts. The peanut is the classic nut. It’s the nut to end all nuts.
And it’s not even a nut.
Believe it or nut, the peanut is actually a legume. Nuturally, this means that peanuts are more closely related to beans or peas than actual nuts. And yet they’re the most famous nuts in the world. Who wouldn’t want their nuts to be famous?

Peanuts entered the game wearing a nut costume, and the judges just said “Sure, why nut? Close enough” And here we are. Peanuts have been dominating the nut game ever since. You really have to admire that kind of audacity. We know we do.
Peanuts Have The Best Nicknames
Be honest with us for a second. Have you ever nicknamed your nuts? Don’t worry, people do that all the time. Heck, we’ve nicknamed our nuts. Trust us, it makes running a nut store a whole lot easier.
Take peanuts, for example. We’d argue that out of all the nuts in the world, peanuts have the best nicknames.
You know what they call peanuts? Groundnuts. Goobers. Monkey nuts. Monkey nuts! No, we didn’t make up any of those nicknames. Go look them up. We’ll wait.
Are you bored in quarantine yet? Looking for something to mix up the tedium? Then don’t tell people that you’re eating peanuts. Tell them you’re eating monkey nuts. Seriously, please do it. And then tell us how people react, because we really want to know. It’s for science.
The Best In Versatility
We once wrote a whole post on how versatile cashews are, and we won’t steal cashews’ thunder, but they’re not the only ones to get in on that flexible nut action. It turns out that peanuts are quite versatile, too.
Truly, there’s nothing better than having flexible nuts. What good are your nuts if you can’t do a lot of fun things with them? Well, that’s why the peanut reigns supreme, even if it’s not technically a nut.
Peanuts have a lot of the mildness of cashews, but they don’t have quite as much sweetness on their own. Peanuts have a distinct peanutty taste, so they’re great as they are. Sometimes nuts just want to breathe free and be themselves, you know? You put one of these nuts in your mouth, and you’ll think “Ah, yes, this is a peanut.” There’s no mistaking it for anything else.
Still, peanuts have other options, too. There’s the classic salty nut, of course. Everyone loves some salty nuts, and you can keep things good and salty with some peanuts.
Want a hotter experience? Then spice it up! Some Carolina Reaper Powder or wasabi can kick things up a notch and maybe clear out your sinuses. Be careful when you put spices on your nuts, though. It’s not for everyone, although we’re not here to judge.

Hey, speaking of versatility, the great thing about peanuts is that you can take them anywhere.
